Nutrition Fundamentals – Introduction

As I have said before, “knowledge is power”. I strongly believe that if you have the knowledge then you are more likely to succeed in any walk of life.

This is especially true when it comes to health and fitness including our day to day nutritional habits.

If we just blindly go about our business believing all the adverts we see and claims of health from food companies trying to sell their products then we are likely to become a victim of these tall truths.

The best way to ensure we eat the right things at the right time is to know exactly what our bodies require. Once we know this the next stage is to know what is in each food product. Then we can tally up our requirements with what we actually eat and hey presto…optimum nutrition.

Is it this simple…well yes and no. We can’t eat like robots. In an ideal world this would be great but with everyday stresses and strains and economical problems, temptation, cravings, peer pressure, stress, anxiety….the list goes on our diet can get pulled from pillar to post.

So what I would like to do is start at the basics and build up a slow and gradual knowledge base so that you can arm yourself with the right information in order to make educated decisions on what you should and shouldn’t be eating.

I honestly believe there is a big difference between eating something with no nutritional value but being completely naive to the fact and eating that same item but knowing that it has no nutritional value and eating it anyway.

The difference is that having the knowledge and doing it anyway is a conscious decision. We then can’t be surprised that if we do this too many times then our waist band is going to grow and our health will decline.

Knowledge is power….how we use that knowledge is the tricky part and hopefully by getting educated you can start to make better daily decisions when it comes to nutrition and start to impact your life in a positive way from the inside out.
